JOHN R. SCHURMAN, II, MD

John R. Schurman, II, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with over twenty-five years of subspecialty experience in: total joint replacement of the hip and knee; complex arthritic reconstruction; and arthroscopic knee surgery.
Dr. Schurman earned his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. During his orthopaedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, he was named Chief Resident of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He trained at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA, studying techniques of adult reconstructive surgery. He continued his postgraduate training in this subspecialty field at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio as a James A. Dickson Fellow.
After his fellowship, Dr. Schurman was appointed Chief of Adult Reconstruction at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and later became Vice Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1998 to continue his career.
Dr. Schurman is a well-known lecturer and author on joint replacement and reconstruction. In the past few years, he has delivered more than 60 presentations at numerous universities, teaching hospitals, professional meetings, and symposia throughout the United States. He has also published several articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and has produced a number of surgical training videos.
Dr. Schurman is currently Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita and Associate Director of the Wichita School of Medicine Orthopaedic Residency Program. He continues to be actively involved in groundbreaking research in the field of joint replacement and reconstruction. Dr. Schurman has participated in the development of hip and knee replacement devices and has been on the design team of several hip and replacement devices currently available. He also belongs to several prestigious professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Association for Arthritic Hip and Knee Surgery, the American Medical Association, the Medical Society of Sedgwick County, and the Mid Central Sates Orthopaedic Society.
